The F. A. Peabody
Company was first incorporated in 1927 by its founder, Frank A. Peabody, providing
property/casualty insurance out of a small office located in the Market Square of Houlton,
Maine. As business grew Frank relied on a new hire, Oscar Benn, to help run the agency. In
1946, Mr. Benn became the president of the company upon Frank's retirement. The business
continued its growth and in 1961, as staff was added, Oscar looked to Robert Anderson to
assist in the daily operations. By 1967, the staff had grown to six, the agency was now
selling life, disability and health insurance and a real estate brokerage division was
added. In that year Oscar retired from the day to day activities and Bob was appointed
president. During the next 30 years the insurance operation grew to five Maine locations
and the company diversified further with the addition of travel, trust administration,
risk management services and estate and financial planning services. Christopher Benn
Anderson joined the firm in 1988 to assist in the burgeoning growth and in 1998 was
appointed president of the company. Bob Anderson now serves as chairman of the board and
chief financial officer. |
