Maine is dubbed “Vacationland” and one of the best reasons is that it is a beautiful place to enjoy water recreation. With miles of ocean shoreline, rivers, and acres of inland lakes, Maine is home to more than 100,000 registered boats. Tourists join us in the summer to enjoy boating activities, and natives to Maine can’t wait to get our boats tuned up and back in the water after each long winter.
At F.A. Peabody, we know more than most that “Things Happen” and we don’t want you to be worried about them when you are enjoying your time in the sun. Before you leave the dock, make sure you are knowledgeable about the rules and regulations of watercraft, preferably having gained that knowledge from a boating safety class. Also follow some of these tips:
- Avoid alcohol
- Wear a life jacket
- Know the boat’s manufacturer’s capacity guideline and don’t exceed it.
- Check the weather forecast before going out
- Create a float plan with your plans, list of passengers, contact information, etc., and leave it with a trusted friend.
Always know what you have for coverage. Don’t assume your home or auto insurance will cover damage to your boat, liability for damage to others’ property, or bodily injury to yourself, passengers, or people on other boats. We insure any kind of boat you can imagine: canoes, jet skis, sailboats, fishing boats, yachts, etc. Contact us to discuss the different types and amounts of coverage we can provide. We can save money by bundling your watercraft insurance with your home and/or auto coverage.
Enjoy our beautiful water as often as you can before it turns back to ice this winter! Just call us first for a bit of peace of mind.
